DIY Liquid Dish Soap

Commercial dish soap can be tough on grease but can also be tough on the environment and our skin.

Use this simple recipe to create your own dish soap. It’s low cost, gentle on hands and easy to make.

DIY Liquid Dish Soap

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp of grated bar castile soap
  • 1 Tbsp of Borax
  • 1 1/2 cups of boiling water
  • 5-10 drops of essential oils (optional for scented soap)

Directions

  • Bring water to a boil on the stove or microwave
  • Mix the grated castile soap and borax in a medium bowl. Pour hot water over the mixture. Stir until the castile soap has melted.
  • Let the mixture sit for approximately 8 hours, stirring occasionally. The dish soap will thicken and begin to gel.
  • Pour the soap into a squirt bottle, and add essential oils. Shake well to mix the essential oils throughout the soap.
